Round the world USAF style

Link: www.vusaf.org

I belong to a pretty cool virtual airline called vUSAF or Virtual United States Air Force which is very nice. Currently I am assigned to the Air Force Reserves out of Dover where I fly the C-5 Galaxy and the C-9. Both are very nice aircraft.

Currently I've been doing an around the world flight, from Dover I headed over to Incirlik Turkey and then over to Bagram in Afghanistan. From there I took another long flight to Yokota Air Force base in Japan and then I have to legs left, one to Nellis Las Vegas and then back to Dover.

If you like fighters it is also for you, not just the transport stuff.

Defunct ailines makes for fun

I've been feeling somewhat sad as some of my favorite aircraft has gotten older and are slowly being replaced but then I realised that I can fly them for as long as I want to and anyway too.

I been fooling around with some of the older airlines that has gone out of business or have been merged into newer ones.

I love the Hawker Siddeley 748 but since West Air Sweden (a local cargo airline) stopped flying them, opting for newer types I've been at a loss to why I would take it out for a spin until I discovered a old airline that got bought in the early nineties, i.e. Dan air.

Looked on the web and found a bunch of information and route maps and on I my way I was again.

Link: avsim.com

Vauchez has designed this scenery of Dinard/St Malo which claims to be a great scenery and on the edge of what can be done with reasonable frame rates within fs9.

And after trying it out I can only agree with the statement, the frame rates are great, the scenery is very pretty, especially when you overfly the nearby town. Great work!

Passed the Captains Checkride

Link: www.aavirtual.com/

One of the VA's I belong to is American Airlines Virtual and it is a very nice one indeed. Among other things they have a cool screening process with a checkride when you join and one as you move up in the ranks. I've completed my 150 hours last week and was eligible for the Captains checkride. After a challenging flight all by hand from Dallas-Forth Worth to Houston that took me 1.3 hours, made a SID, three loops in a holding pattern, a descent with altitude and speed restrictions along the STAR, and an ILS approach and then it was finally done.

I did pass and felt really, really glad about it! It felt great and is one of those things I will remember for a long time as a proof of my ability in the flightsimming world!
