Weekend Long haul flight

This weekends long haul flight went from Newark Liberty Intl, KEWR to Dusseldorf in Germany. A nice flight that I have gone on IRL and that I have done a number of times in fs9.

A nice view of New York from the west.
Shortly after taking off and making a right
turn off of runway 22R.

Another nice view of New York by night.
A lovely place to visit in real life too.

And the last one from the flight deck of my
Lufthansa Airbus 340-300.

All in all the flight took 7.3 hours and about
five of those were at night.

Way too many flights

Link: Cyber Air VA

So I was a bit curious the other night just how many flights I had flown for the first virtual airline I joined back in 1999, Cyber Air VA. I counted my flights (which I have logged in a special binder) I had a total of 116 complete a4 pages with flights, 18 per page and 11 on the last page, this gives me a total of 2099 flights since 1999!

I am such a nerd!

The Flightsim Toolbar

Link: flightsimtoolbar.com

Jon Coffing has created a rather cool looking toolbar for the simming community that looks great!

"All your favorite Flight Sim sites are all a click or two away! From flight planning, weather, FS communities, and over 300 Virtual Airlines are available with a simple drop-down menu system plus so much more! Customize your toolbar by adding or removing components that you don't use or don't want to see"

I have this old VHS movie, a documentary from a Boeing 757 going from Manchester to Dalaman in Turkey. I've made the flight a couple times myself in FS and it is a nice one.

More information on the Embraer 110 can be found here.

Chris Palmer is up to episode 32 of the 45 he has promised to produce. The last ones contain a lot of cool information about planning, fuel and such and the next ones promises to contain 10 cross country flights which should be very interesting, the first two of those are already published and then are a treat.

Review new FS9 Lockheed L-188 Electra II

Link: flightsim.com

As promised here is a review of the just plain awsome package with an aircraft by J.R. Lucariny, sound package by W.C. Schultz and Victor Merculief and an amazing panel by Fraser McKay.

The main attraction of the package is the sound set and panel though. The sound set you just have to try out yourself but the panel I will give you a couple of examples of.

The one nice thing I like about the panel is the sub-panel-selection which is text on the glareshield that you press to open the sub-panels with. There are a bunch of panels, the deicing panel, engine start panel, electrical panel, pressurising controls, power levers, fuel panel, radio panel, autopilot panel, checklist, gps, atc, map and feather panel.
One suggestion though is to read the documentation because this panel is way more than your standard flightsim panel and if you want the aircraft to work you had better follow the checklist.

I have modified it a bit and added my favorite, the ISG gauges as it gives me a FMC, in the original package there was a nice radar gauge in the same spot.

I especially like a couple of things with the package, the interactive checklist, the vital data card, the complexity, the fact that you have to set up the panel correct in order for the aircraft to be able to work. It just feels pretty real.

Lockheed L188 Electra

Link: flightsim.com

As I was checking through the new additions on flightsim and I came across this complete Electra package with an aircraft by J.R. Lucariny, sound package by W.C. Schultz and Victor Merculief and an amazing panel by Fraser McKay.

The panel was a lot more realistic than many other panels so I had a heck of a time to get the engines running proparly, luckily there was a pretty good flight manual.

I am going to take this baby out for a more extensive spin and maybe put together a better review alter on.

FS Live Traffic 3

I've spent a lot of time adding ai flightplans, downloaded the specific airlines sets etc but this payware from Airnavsystems seem to have a nice angle that puts a lot of real aircraft in your flightsimulator.
By downloaded the real life traffic a few moments before firing up your flightsimulator you will get the real traffic, complete with real life delays.
I guess the one big reason I see for not getting this myself is the fact that it is sold as a subscription based system and the cost for wach 6 month period is kind of steep at $54.95 for the worldwide fs9 version.

The corporate jets they have in their stock is the Cessna Citation X, CJ1, CII, a couple of Beechjets and they are pretty nice.
